Under 'An Assessment made this 22 day of June 1778 on the Inhabitants of the Parish of Clapham in the County of Surrey to be considered as a Monthly Rate for & towards the present Necessary Relief of the Poor & Indigent persons of the said Parish at Two Shillings in the pound:' (ie 10p)

1780 - same except rate increased to 2s 6d (12.5p) in the £ therefore: Rent £16 Rate £2

1781 - same except rate increased to 3s (15p) in £ therefore:
Rent £16 Rate £2-8s (£2.40)

NOT listed for 1782 to 1789 (inclusive) Assessments but listed again for: 1790 -
Thos. Gander Rent £9 Rate £15s 9d (79p) (Rate down to 1/9d (9p) in pound payable)

1791 - same except rate up to 2s 6d (12.5p) in £ again therefore Rent £9-ls (£9.05) Rate £2-68(£2.30). [A Thomas PARR also listed for this year paying Rent of £6 and paying a Rate of 15s (75p).]

1792 - entry made 21st May for Thos. Gander but no further entry made following the name, just a line.

No further entries for Thomas Gander for 1793 to 1798 inclusive.

[None found for 1761 to 1777 inclusive.]

No other GANDER entries found in these Assessments. Noted that many of the entries written as 'Mr.' (denoting gentry) but Thomas Gander written as plain 'Thos.'

No GANDER'S in Clapham Poor House 1764 & none paying Pew Rent 1765-69.
